Text Content
Most awards and enterprise agreements have a specific minimum wage for juniors (workers under 21). This is usually a percentage of the relevant adult pay rate for the employee's classification, based on their age. For help working out your employee's classification, visit our Award classifications page at fairwork.gov.au/award-classifications Once you know your employee's classification you can calculate junior pay rates using our Pay Calculator (PACT) at fairwork.gov.au/pact If there are no junior pay rates in the award or enterprise agreement, a young worker should be paid the adult wage rate. You can check your award or agreement to see if there are any junior pay rates for your young workers at fairwork.gov.au/employment-conditions Keep in mind that if an enterprise agreement contains a base pay rate that is lower than the relevant award rate, the employee must be paid at least the award rate. If there's no award or enterprise agreement that covers your business, the National Minimum Wage has rates for junior employees.
